A simple DIY project will allow you to build a garden bench in your backyard. A bench can add function to your outdoor space. It can be made from many materials. It can be made out of wood, stone and cinderblocks. When selecting a material for a bench, you should first consider its type and size.

Once you have chosen the material, build the legs. For the legs, use 2x4 lumber. Each piece should be cut at 15 degrees. Align the braces with the legs. To attach the braces drill pilot holes, and screw the lumber pieces together. Next, attach the backrest/slats to your supports. To finish, use 2 1/2'' screws.

Measure the back and the front to construct the bench frame. Measure the length and width of the planks, and use the 2-x scrap to mark the center of the frame. Align the arms and legs according to your measurements. Once you've cut the legs and arms to the correct length, attach the arms. Attach the arms flush to the back legs. After you've assembled the frame add a finishing coat or any decorative elements to your bench.

After the frame is complete, it's time to install the arms and legs. To build the back support of the bench, measure from the back and front. With a scrap 2x wood, mark the centre. Once you've attached the back leg, attach your legs and arms to it. Attach the arms to both the front and back legs. You can choose a suitable finish for the wood to prolong its life.

Once you have assembled the bench, you can add decorative details to it. The length of the wood slats should measure two metres. The length of the slats may be adjusted to suit your needs. Attach the slats to your legs. Attach the seat and armrests. You can add more slats, depending upon the dimensions of the bench.

You will first need to make the frame and supports for your garden bench. Using a circular saw, cut the armrest supports at an angle of 75 degrees. After attaching the armrests, attach the bottom slats with the dowels. Attach the concrete slats with two 1/2 inch screws.
